Increase In Air Conditioning Sales Raises Concern For The Climate

The climatic condition of the world is changing and a major factor for it is the increase in the use of air conditioners all over the world. The air conditioners are warming up the air fast and at an alarming rate. Moreover, the rise in the level of income, development of world economy, the standard of living and its demands, smaller families living in larger houses and in hotter places, all are factors that affect the sales rate of air conditioners and as a result, the air conditioner market is booming.

The Alarming Figure

The world figure of air conditioning sales went up by 13 percent in 2011 as compared to 2010 and this growth is expected to be even more in the coming decades. This resulted in over-consumption of electricity which is over one trillion kilowatt-hours annually apart from the gallons and gallons of gasoline used by vehicle air conditioners. It is expected that this consumption of energy will rise up by tenfold by the year 2050 resulting in an unwelcome change in the climatic condition. The refrigerant that contains chlorofluorocarbons harms the ozone layer of the stratosphere causing holes and allows sun’s heat to pass through easily making the world a boiling furnace.

All Is Not Lost

Though the use of residential, industrial and commercial ventilation systems and air conditioners are on the rise, all hopes are not lost yet. Manufacturers are trying hard to find newer and better ways to use renewable energy to meet the demands of air conditioning. A significant rise in renewable electricity production using solar, wind, biomass and geothermal sources is noticeable that could expand to five times of its current production of about 750 billion kilowatt hours.
